Keeping a relationship healthy is hard enough under ordinary circumstances. Add living abroad, or a cross-cultural marriage, and it gets more complicated again.
People come to couples counselling for all sorts of reasons: infidelity, sexual difficulties, differences in parenting style, or simply drifting apart without quite knowing when it started. There is no threshold you have to reach before it’s worth talking to someone.
Sooner tends to work better
Research has found that couples often stay in an unhappy relationship for up to six years before seeking counselling. You don’t need to wait that long, and outcomes tend to be better for couples who come earlier rather than later.
How well couples counselling works depends a great deal on what both people want from it. For some that means communicating more effectively. For others it means learning how to support one another better, or deciding together what happens next. The most useful thing you can do is set those goals openly with the therapist at the start.
Who we work with
We see expat couples, Thai couples and cross-cultural couples in Bangkok. Sessions are in English. Dr. Mason also speaks German and Thai.
Decision needed
Per the March 2024 email thread, family counselling was to be split out from this page so it can target relationship and marriage searches more cleanly. No family-related search demand was found in the 12-month Search Console data, so this is currently left merged. Confirm whether to split.
